Follow Jesus the Christ and you will become … – Dr Modestine CASTANOU

Follow Jesus Christ and you will become

Following Jesus is not about joining a movement. It’s not about subscribing to a religious way of thinking. It’s a divine invitation. A prophetic word. A heavenly summons. Follow me! It’s not advice, it’s not a suggestion, it’s not optional. It’s the King of kings speaking. And when He speaks, destinies shift, stories are interrupted, lives take a supernatural turn.

But today, who are you really? Are you following Jesus or following a man? Are you following Christ or following the voices of the world?

Mark 1:17 – Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Follow me… and you will become. You won’t make yourself. The world won’t reveal your purpose. No! It’s Jesus who shapes you, who prepares you, who equips you… provided you accept to follow Him fully, radically, without compromise.

Following Jesus is embracing a personal, deep, supernatural calling. When I heard that Word, something inside me was divinely shaken. I said to myself: Wow… Jesus didn’t say “Follow a church, follow a vibe, follow a religious trend.” No no no! He said, “Follow ME.” Him, personally. The Creator. The Messiah. The Savior of the world. He doesn’t need any backdrop, He is the essence of truth.

A radical call to a new life

When Jesus says “Follow me,” He’s not opening a debate. He’s not asking you to negotiate. He’s summoning you. It’s a radical call. A call to let go. When He met Andrew, Simon, James, and John, they were all busy, immersed in their work. But the moment He said “Follow me,” the Bible says they left everything. They let go of their nets, their jobs, their routines, their family business. James and John even left their father. Why? Because they had heard a voice. The Voice. The only voice that breaks the chains of the ordinary and gives heavenly direction.

Too often, we want to follow Jesus without letting go of anything. We want to follow Him halfway. But that’s not possible. You cannot follow Jesus and hold on to the baggage of your old life. The “Follow me” is always tied to a “leave your net.” Leave what you are attached to. Leave what provides your security. Leave your system. And what I love is that Jesus doesn’t ask this to impoverish you—on the contrary. He says: “Follow me, and I will make you…” He wants to shape you, transform you, give you a true identity.

Letting go of the nets means letting go of the old life. Their nets represented their livelihood, their stability, their daily routine, their identity. In letting them go, they accepted to say to Jesus: “Make me what You want.” Following Jesus is a leap into the unknown, but with one certainty: the One who called me is faithful. He doesn’t call me to crush me. He calls me to build me.

When the Lord called me, I wasn’t in a building with pipe organs and liturgical songs. No. I was in a simple place, but the word being preached spoke to me personally. It wasn’t just a speaker. It was Jesus speaking through that mouth. And when He called, I stood up and came forward. And I later understood—it wasn’t my aunt who brought me there. It was a divine appointment Jesus had set to call me. It was a summons. Follow me!

So I ask the question: What about you? Will you respond? Will you say yes? Are you ready to leave your nets, your habits, your securities, to embrace the unknown with Jesus?

It all begins with a voice in the secret place

What’s profound in this passage is that Jesus didn’t choose randomly. He walked under the instruction of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that Jesus began His ministry after spending forty days in fasting and prayer. Then He was led into the wilderness to be tempted. Only afterward did He begin walking along the Sea of Galilee. Jesus did nothing randomly. Every step was prophetic. He didn’t start in Nazareth, His hometown. No. He started exactly where the Father wanted Him to be. He was following a roadmap given in the secret place.

This is why you must not go out speaking in the name of Jesus without being led by the Holy Spirit. You cannot do God’s work through carnal activism. You must go where He sends you. Otherwise, you’ll burn out. You’ll cast the net and catch nothing. You’ll be active with no impact. But when He says, “Follow me,” He repositions you in your mission, your calling, your supernatural fulfillment.

When I accepted to follow Jesus, I had no idea I was called to spiritual architecture. I had studied psychology, then HR. I was a recruiting officer. But when I chose to set myself apart, in fasting, in prayer, the Lord gave me an open vision of the room to build for the Church: the color of the chairs, the hallways, the interior layout. And that’s exactly what we built in Boissy-Saint-Léger. No architecture degree, but by revelation. Follow me, and I will make you an architect of My Kingdom!

You see, your calling may be hidden behind your human ambitions. You think you’re made for one thing, but Jesus knows what you are to become. You just have to follow Him. It’s not you who becomes—it’s He who makes you.

A doctor doesn’t become a doctor to make a living. He becomes a healer of souls if Jesus molds him. A lawyer becomes a defender of captives in the spiritual realm if Jesus calls him. An IT specialist becomes a repairer of heart codes in the Kingdom. You can stay in your field, but when you follow Jesus, that field becomes a platform through which He operates.

A calling that goes beyond human capacity

Even Judas was called. Jesus knew who he was. But He still said to him “Follow me.” God’s love gives a chance. The call is grace! A grace we do not deserve! If God chose people based on the purity of their hearts, none of us would be here. Myself first! But the call is not for those already ready. It prepares those whom He calls. Follow me, I will make you.

Still struggling with your past? Let it go. Still operating by your human reference points? Drop them. Still advancing by sight without divine vision? Come back to the secret place. Jesus says: “Follow me, I will make you.” Your part is to follow. His part is to make.

Matthew 22:14 – For many are called, but few are chosen.

Because very few truly respond to the call. Few leave their nets. Few have that radical faith. Few understand that behind the word “Follow me” lies divine training, heavenly transformation, prophetic metamorphosis.

You think your life is ordinary? There’s a hidden call behind your story. With God, nothing is ordinary. Even fishing for fish became the channel to create fishers of men. So wherever you are, whatever you do, hear this voice today: Follow me… and you will become!

Let’s pray together

Lord Jesus, I want to follow You. I let go of my nets. I release my human securities, my earthly systems, my carnal reasonings. I no longer want to navigate by sight. I want to walk according to Your vision, according to Your call. Make me what You want me to become. I take this step of faith. I open my heart to You. Break what must be broken, shape what must be shaped, and raise me up into the mission You have planned for my life. I respond to Your call, I become in Your hands. Lord, be the Shepherd of my soul!

🙏 If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, pray this with faith:

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I need You. I believe that You died for my sins and that You rose again. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Transform my life. Lead me according to Your plan. Reveal Your calling in my life. I want to become what You’ve planned for me. Amen.
