WHAT ARE THE KING’S EXPECTATIONS? – Ps Modestine CASTANOU – KHAYIL 2024

What are the expectations of the King?

The time has come! The bride cries out, the Spirit and the bride say: Come! Is your heart ready to meet the King? Do you know what He expects of you? God is calling us into a deep, intimate relationship with Him. This is not a distant call, but a covenant, a spiritual marriage where the bride is you, it’s us, it’s the Church. And like every bride, we must know His expectations.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

This love is a sacrificial love, a passionate love that chose us EVEN before we existed. So the real question is this: Are we responding properly to that love? Are we living up to the expectation of the King?

The love story between God and us

When we speak of the bride, we speak of love. Our relationship with God is a covenant, a love story built on commitments, expectations, divine desires. It does not begin the day we accept Jesus. No! It begins long before that!

Ezekiel 16 gives us this powerful image of God taking an abandoned child, cleaning her, adorning her, and making her His bride.

This is the heart of the Father! He found us, He washed us, He clothed us in glory, and He sealed us with a covenant of faithfulness.

But who is Jesus in this story? He is the King, He is the Bridegroom, and He paid the ultimate price for His bride.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her. (Ephesians 5:25)

Jesus loved to the point of death. He proved His commitment. Now, the question is asked: What does He expect of us in return?

The King’s expectation: A submitted bride

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:22-23)

This word “submission” makes people cringe today. But it is misunderstood! Submission is not slavery, it is a mission under the reign of the King. Being the King’s bride means living for Him, aligning with His will, not seeking our own interest but His.

A true bride does not seek to impose her own vision against that of the King. Her mission is clear: to understand what the King wants and position herself to fulfill His desires. When Esther entered the palace of King Ahasuerus, she didn’t impose her will. She understood there was a protocol, a preparation, an alignment to observe. The King’s bride is primarily a woman who submits to divine sovereignty, who seeks to please her Lord in everything.

The inner attitude of the bride: Constant prayer

A bridegroom expects ongoing communication from his bride. How can we claim to be close to the King without speaking to Him?

The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But the married woman cares about the things of the world—how she may please her husband. (1 Corinthians 7:34)

The King’s bride lives in prayer! Her prayer is not just a request, it is a conversation with her Beloved.

In Luke 4:1-13, we see Jesus tempted in the wilderness. Every attack from the devil aimed to derail Him from His mission. But He answered with the Word, with authority, with conviction.

The King’s bride does the same! She lives in a posture of intercession. She does not merely endure circumstances; she rules over situations through prayer. The prayer of the bride is a prayer of authority, a prayer that opens the heavens, that tears down walls! If you want to be a bride after God’s heart, then you must develop a prayer life that becomes your very breath.

Surrender: A non-negotiable requirement

Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

Being the King’s bride is to deny oneself. The bride no longer lives for her own pleasure—she lives to see her Bridegroom’s Kingdom established. This means sacrificing our own fleshly ambitions, our selfish desires, to embrace the will of God.

Mary is a powerful example of this bridal reality. She accepted to carry Jesus in her womb without fully understanding the divine plan. She accepted to be associated with an unexplained pregnancy, with criticism, with rejection. But she submitted because she knew she was carrying something that came from God. In the same way, the King’s bride is called to carry the burden of the Kingdom, to accept the unexplainable, to give herself completely in order to come into alignment with God.

Intimacy and worship: The King’s delight

A bridegroom expects to be loved, honored, desired. The love the bride has for her King must not be mechanical but passionate! Too many Christians live a distant relationship with God, made up of routines without depth. But what God is looking for is a bride who burns with love for Him. He desires communion, a heart on fire that worships Him without restraint.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5)

The Lord seeks worshippers in spirit and in truth—hearts that come to Him not just to ask, but to embrace Him, to offer Him sincere and devoted love.

Let us pray together

Lord, I recognize that You have called me to be Your bride. Today, I choose to answer Your call, to live for You, to seek Your will above my own. Fill me with Your Spirit, teach me Your ways! May my love for You grow more and more each day, may my whole life be an offering unto You. In the name of Jesus, amen!

🙏 If you want to commit fully to Jesus, say this prayer:

Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I recognize that I need to be restored. I accept You as my Lord and my Savior. Transform me, fill me with Your love, and lead me into intimacy with You. Amen.
