Why Are Christians Ashamed of the Gospel? – Apostle Alain Patrick TSENGUE

Why are so many Christians ashamed of the Gospel?

My God! My God! My God, what a presence in this place! You can feel the excellence of heaven. There is something divine here. Can someone hear me in this room? When you step into such an atmosphere, you know you cannot leave the way you came. So I want to tell someone today: “Get ready to shift dimensions!”

But the question I am bringing to this generation is piercing: Why are so many Christians ashamed of the Gospel? Why has the mouth of the Church been silenced? Paul says in Romans 1:16: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel!” Why? Because the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes. Not a simple philosophy. Not morality. Power. He didn’t say one power among many. He said: THE power of God.

And if you don’t see that power, if you don’t see miracles in your life, if you don’t see transformation, then maybe you are ashamed. Because fundamentally, the one who is not ashamed will see the glory. The Gospel is not an option—it is the ultimate solution for lost humanity. The salvation of our families, the restoration of our cities, the transformation of our nation will never come solely through politics, education, or medicine. No! It will come through Jesus Christ. Is someone with me? Jesus is the answer!

The shield of timidity

If the Church of our generation is silent, it’s because an invisible armor keeps it from speaking. And this armor is called timidity. My brothers and sisters, listen to me: timidity hinders the proclamation of the Gospel. Timidity stifles potential. How many brilliant, called individuals are locked in the prison of silence because of this fear of being judged? You cannot shine if you don’t open your mouth.

Timid, yes—but for how long? If you don’t confront your comfort zone, it will become your spiritual tomb. The only way to overcome timidity is to face the situations you are fleeing from. Success is not far; it’s not above you—it’s just on the other side of your fear. When you dare, you activate the power of the Gospel. So step out, speak up, testify!

I often say: comfort is the enemy of revival. Not because God is against comfort, but because when your comfort prevents you from obeying the divine call, it becomes a curse. Revival has never started in air-conditioned living rooms. It begins where men and women decide to lose their lives for Christ.

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)

But today, who still wants that cross? Who still wants to look like the Master?

A false conception of what a disciple is

Let me tell you why many are ashamed: they don’t know what a true disciple is. They think following Jesus means going to church. No! Being a disciple is much more. It’s not about being a member of a spiritual structure. It’s not about occasionally attending services. No. No. No! It’s about becoming like Jesus.

Luke 6:40: The fully trained disciple will be like his Master.

That means our goal here on earth is not to shine ourselves, but to reflect His light. To think like Him, speak like Him, suffer like Him, love like Him. A disciple is the one who rises when no one is looking, who prays when everyone else is asleep, who weeps for souls, who carries the cross and rejects ease.

I asked ChatGPT—yes, even he got some discipleship training—and he reminded me of three powerful truths:

  • A disciple knows his Master
  • He imitates Him
  • He lives with total commitment

Not emotional commitment. Not conditional commitment. But radical commitment.

Jesus said: “Whoever does not carry his cross cannot be My disciple.”

Everything must be organized around Christ: your career choices, your marriage, your location, your entire life. Jesus becomes the center.

And this is where many go astray. Because they want the blessings of Jesus but not the lifestyle of Jesus. They want His resurrection but not His Gethsemane. They want His power but not His cross. Jesus was persecuted? You will be persecuted. He suffered? You will suffer. He was misunderstood? You will be misunderstood. There is no such thing as discipleship without suffering. You cannot aspire to the Master’s glories while trying to escape His pains.

The Gospel goes against the current

Those who are ashamed of the Gospel are also those who have forgotten that the Gospel will always be foolishness to the world.

1 Corinthians 1:18: The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.

Don’t try to be understood by the world. Don’t try to be loved by dead systems. You cannot please heaven and hell at the same time. It’s impossible! When you bring joy to heaven, hell rages against you! But that’s a good sign! It means you’re on the right track. So if your life is being shaken because you’re talking about Jesus, rejoice, for your reward is great.

Remember: preaching is your duty. Convincing is the Holy Spirit’s role. You open your mouth, He opens hearts! And that’s why you must be full of the Spirit! Full! Fullness is the fuel of your testimony.

On the day of Pentecost, the anointing fell in an atmosphere of prayer. If you don’t have fire, don’t be surprised that nothing changes around you. You preach but without presence. You speak, but without authority. My God! You must be filled. True evangelism is when your “hello” releases an atmosphere. Your smile triggers tremors in someone’s soul. They feel something. They ask you: “Tell me, what is your peace? What is your joy?”

And I saw it. Myself. When I was younger, I used to pray at 4 a.m., I walked through my high school filled with the Holy Spirit. One day I spoke to a guy just about his haircut, and two weeks later, I saw him at church. I hadn’t even preached to him! He told me, “That day, something came over me… a voice told me to come find you and follow Jesus.”

I have testimonies like this one in cascade. Not because I’m special. No. Because I understood one thing: power doesn’t come from method, it comes from presence. And where there is presence, there is transformation.

  • You want to save your family? Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • You want to reach your city? Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • You want to see the greatness of God? Preach radically, without compromise.

The Gospel doesn’t need to be altered to be accepted. It must be preached exactly as it is!

Get ready to see the glory

I’m going to tell you: Jesus is coming back very soon. We don’t know the hour or the day. But He is coming.

The Lord will descend from heaven… and we will be caught up to meet Him.

My God! My God! I see that moment. I see the King of Glory on His majestic horse. I see the media connected all around the world. I see the heavenly armies behind Him, and you are there! You are, my brother! You are, my sister! You are part of that generation that will bring down darkness. You are part of that army that will crush the serpent. Amen! And when every knee bows, even your greatest persecutors will say, “Jesus is Lord!”

Do not give up. Keep testifying. Keep talking to your cousin, your neighbor, your coworker. Even if he refuses today, one day the seed will bear fruit. And maybe it will be on his deathbed. But he will remember that you spoke to him about a Savior. Don’t abandon your mission. Don’t stay silent. Speak as if their salvation depended on your cry. Cry out! Preach! Testify!

Let’s pray together

Lord, today I stand before You. I refuse to be ashamed of You. I choose to proclaim You boldly. Fill me again! Give me Your fire! Ignite my life for souls! I want to be Your witness to the end. Even if the world rejects me. Even if hell rages. I want to proclaim Your Name. My God, only Jesus saves! May Your presence go with me every day to impact my generation. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

🙏 If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, say this prayer in faith:

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I need You. I believe that You died for my sins and that You rose again. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Transform my life and lead me on Your path. Amen.
