How can a man say he loves God, praises Him, prays, preaches… and yet live, at the same time, in duplicity, fraud, adultery, sexual impurity? How can one claim to have received Jesus in his heart and live every day in contradiction to who He is? This morning, God opened my eyes. He showed me: the problem is not hypocrisy. It’s not just a human weakness. The problem is LUST. And if you tolerate it in your heart, it will destroy you. That’s why James 1:14-15 speaks with terrifying clarity:
“Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” (James 1:14-15)
You don’t sin by accident. You sin because your heart desired something other than God. That’s the root. That’s the truth.
God revealed to me: every human being was created with a burning desire written into them. Not a need. Not a preference. But a deep thirst. An inner fire. And that fire was placed there by God, for God. You were designed to desire Him ardently. It’s a permanent inner programming. All were created by God, in God, for God. To reflect Him. To express Him. To desire Him. To love Him. To reveal Him.
But Satan understood this. He knows that God does not violate your free will. God needs your desire to come and plant His glory in you. For desire is spiritual permission. It is the door you open when you say, “Come, Lord, I thirst for You.” But when that fire of desire is diverted toward something other than God, the Bible calls it LUST. It is no longer just a wish. It is spiritual adultery. You are married to God. You are meant to desire Him. So when you crave something else – a man, a woman, a house, a career, other people’s approval – more than you crave your Creator, you’ve opened the door to unfaithfulness and spiritual disintegration.
What you experience in your body is only a shadow of spiritual realities. You have biological appetites because there is a true spiritual appetite. The appetite for a meal is a parallel to an inner need to feed your soul. And how do we eat? Through desire. Without appetite, you cannot eat. Desire is therefore the gateway through which God, or another, can enter. A meal doesn’t come without hunger. It’s the same spiritually: without thirst for God, God cannot come.
It is through your desire that He deposits His seed in you. Listen to me carefully: the seed of God is nothing other than His glory. In Greek, “seed”: sperma. In His seed is His presence, His intelligence, His nature, His plans, His holiness, His wisdom. Everything that He is, is contained in that seed. That’s why Scripture says: “The Word became flesh.” It is the seed deposited in a heart longing for Him that ends up producing a character fully aligned with Christ.
Satan is cunning. He knows that if he cannot stop God from blessing you, he can stop God from entering. And to prevent the Holy One from entering, he doesn’t attack your prayer life first. No. That’s just a symptom. He targets your desire. Once your desire has been diverted, here’s what happens: your heart becomes heavy, your prayer becomes empty, your worship becomes mechanical.
Because wherever your desire is directed, that’s where your spiritual vitality will go. If your fire is for money, that’s where your strength will go. If it’s for women, you’ll be drained by morning. And when God comes in the evening, you’ll have nothing left to offer. You will have already poured everything out — elsewhere. You may even push God away, not out of hatred, but because you are full. You are satisfied with what cannot satisfy.
Listen to me. The relationship between the Church and God is a marriage. And in every marriage, desire must remain exclusive. When a husband burns with desire not for his wife, but for another… he has fallen into adultery. Not just through the act, but through desire itself.
And so it goes in spiritual life. When you begin to desire something other than God – be it ministry, fame, the things of this world – then you’ve changed spouses. You are no longer faithful. And all day long, you will have offered your vigor, your seed, your glory to something else. And when the Lord arrives, you are no longer available. You are exhausted. You are emptied.
That’s why James says that when lust has conceived… it gives birth to sin… and then death.
Sin is not accidental. It is the fruit of a redirected desire.
Do you want to get out of this spiral? Want to break the chains of lust, impurity, corrupt ambition? Return to thirst. Not thirst for His blessing. Not thirst for His anointing. Not even for His presence. Return to thirst for His person!
There is a big difference between desiring God and desiring what God gives. Only to those – those who cry out with all their being: “I want You!” – does He release His seed. In that seed is your destiny, your strength, your wisdom, your preordained works. Without that seed, there is no fruit, no transformation, no manifestation.
Because this is the beginning of true revival. Real deliverance begins with a seed. And the seed comes through a heart burning with the right desire. You do not birth your destiny through effort. You birth it through the right pregnancy. And pregnancy begins with the right desire. You want to manifest Christ? Desire Him. That’s where it all begins.
Father, today I confess that my heart has often desired something other than You. Without realizing it, I have been trapped by burning desires that were not You. Forgive me. Change my appetite. Turn me away from lust. Give me a burning thirst for Your person. Come plant Your glory in me. Transform my heart so that I desire what You desire, think what You think, reflect who You are. I now refuse to bear another name. I am Your bride. My heart belongs to You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🙏 If you have never received the life of Jesus, make this prayer with faith:
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I need You. I believe that You died for my sins and that You rose again. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Transform my life and fill me with Your Spirit. I want to walk with You to the end. Amen.
