There are events that hit you so hard you feel like you can’t breathe. Betrayals, words, glances… that pierce your soul like poisoned arrows. You thought you were strong, you believed you’d overcome, but suddenly, you fall. You’re wounded, offended, scandalized. And in that precise moment, the devil thinks: “This is my chance! I can stop them now. I can abort their destiny.”
Jesus said in Luke 17:1: “It is impossible that no offenses should come.” This isn’t a supposition. It’s not a hypothesis. It’s a certainty: offenses will come. But that’s not what should stop you; it’s what you do with it that determines your future. Offense is one of Satan’s most strategic and subtle traps to abort destinies.
Understand that Satan is not impressed by your calling. He’s not afraid of prayers. He’s not bothered by the prophecies you’ve received. That doesn’t move him. What prevents him from aborting your destiny is your rootedness in the Word. If he can pull you away from the Word, push you to reject what God said to you, then he has won.
In Matthew 13:20-21, Jesus talks about the one who received the seed “on the stony places”. He hears the word, receives it with joy… but he has no root in himself. So the moment tribulation, persecution, or trial comes because of the word, he stumbles. He gets offended. He quits. The offense has come. And offense is just that: a stumbling block, a wound that creeps into your heart when you are vulnerable.
Offense is a hit straight to the heart that you didn’t see coming. It’s a conversation you were never supposed to hear. An attitude that broke you. A movie you should never have watched. A scene that, once seen, lit the fire of impurity in you. It’s a blow that opens the door to bitterness, anger, lust, spiritual dryness… That’s what offense is.
And do you know what the devil is waiting for at that very moment?
And what he really wants is for you to reject God. Not by saying God doesn’t exist, but by letting go of His hand. Abandoning the Word is abandoning the One who spoke it.
When you say, “I won’t forgive,” you think you’re rejecting a behavior. But spiritually, you’re telling God: “I reject your will. I will no longer walk with You.”
There’s no such thing as small disobedience. 1 Samuel 15:22-23 reveals that rebellion is LIKE witchcraft. And resisting God’s will is LIKE divination. When you refuse to forgive, you’re already stepping into a form of spiritual witchcraft. You no longer practice righteousness; you live in an illusion. You come to church, you sing, but your soul has left God. You’re walking, yes, but you’re no longer following Him.
And that’s when the Lord says to you: “Come back to My ways. Take My hand again.”
When you reject the Word, you’re rejecting the One who saved you. 1 Thessalonians 4:8 says: “He who rejects this instruction does not reject man, but God Himself.”
You can still believe in God, but if you’re no longer practicing His Word, you’ve rejected Him. And the worst part is, you often don’t even realize it.
Do you remember:
That’s when you stopped following Jesus. It’s not when you stopped going to church – no, it’s when you stopped doing what He asked you to do.
It’s by following Him that you begin to change. Jesus never said, “I will transform you while you sleep.” No! He said: “Follow Me, and I will make you…” It’s by walking in obedience that He begins to restore your soul. He starts by touching what no one else can heal: your inner being.
You want transformation? Follow Him. You want to look like Jesus? Obey His Word.
The Lord is my Shepherd… (Psalm 23)
Yes, but only if you follow Him. “I shall not want” is for those who follow Him. He “restores their soul” because they follow. He “leads them in paths of righteousness” because they follow.
But as long as you’re walking alone, as long as you refuse to forgive, as long as you resist making peace… you’re not following Him – you’re following someone else. And no matter what your mouth confesses, your path reveals your shepherd.
When God is your Shepherd, He leads you. Through your choices, your obedience, He transforms you. Bitterness turns to sweetness. Fear becomes peace. Sadness gives way to joy. Your soul, broken by offenses, is slowly healed and restored.
When you’re offended and refuse to heal, you say to God: “Let me go.” You step into spiritual dryness. Your flesh takes over. You become carnal again – irritable, bitter, angry. You say, “This, I can’t forgive.” You forget that forgiveness isn’t for the other person – it’s for you. You forget it’s a divine instruction to restore your soul.
Follow Him even when your heart doesn’t want to. Follow Him even when your soul weeps. Because the more you walk in obedience, the more unrecognizable you’ll become. You’ll see it: a light will shine from within you. Your character will change. Your gaze will change. You’ll go from a caterpillar to a butterfly. From bitterness to grace. From humiliation to glory.
But it all starts with one decision: “Lord, I take Your hand again. I return. Heal my heart, restore my walk. I choose You as my Shepherd.”
Father, I acknowledge that I was offended. I let an offense, a wound, an injustice make me let go of Your hand. But today I understand that I was trapped. The offense wasn’t an end in itself, it was an evil plan to make me abandon my destiny. But today, I make a firm decision. I return to Your Word. I take Your hand again. I renounce offense, sadness, and anger. I choose to love. I choose to forgive. I choose to follow You, because by following You, I become that butterfly that takes off into my destiny. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
🙏 If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, say this prayer with faith:
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge I need You. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Transform my life and lead me on Your path. Amen.
